Introduction
Zika virus infection is the present global threaten. The disease is an acute febrile illness which can result in neurological complication and teratogenic effect in the pregnant. For hematologist, the interesting concern is on the hematological manifestation in Zika virus infection. As a viral infection, the hematological profile as seen in other arboviral disease should be seen. Nevertheless, the findings on the present cases during outbreak are very interesting. There is no significant observation on the white blood cell change. Although the disease is mentioned for clinical similarity to dengue, there is no observation of atypical lymphocytosis in Zika virus infection (this might be a clue for differential diagnosis). The only observation is thrombocytopenia in some cases. However, the normal platelet count is usually observed[1]. Focusing on red blood cell, no anemia is observed[2]. The effect of the Zika virus infection on the three blood cellular compositions is very interesting and can be the issue for further research in hematology.
